INTERVIEW: KEVIN MOORE
You've recently signed with Pulse Pictures. Tell us a little about that?
Jekyll & Hyde was originally distributed by another smaller distributor. It was a good way for me to get my feet wet. But I felt I out grew that distributor and spent some time talk to Marc Hamilton and Jim over at Pulse. I just felt they were on the same page I was on.
Will you be shooting new stuff for them? What lines?
I'll be continuing the oral series "Stick It In My Face!" and the series "Dress Up Dolls." A new series coming out on Feb 21st will be "Obedience School." I have another new series in the works for later in the year. I don't want to give to much away. I'd like to also do an all Asian series, because I'm addicted to beautiful Asian women.
I hear there was a scene that was a little "too intense" for them to release. What is the story behind that?
I think porn should be a little more psychological... everything is just circus tricks these days. I basically shot this stalker scene and spent a great deal of time in post with it. It is not an overly rough scene, but it's intense. Sadly I broke a few of those "rules" and Pulse wasn't sure they should release it right now. I need to send you a copy of that scene. I'm curious about your opinion on it.
You've been shooting some really creative blowjob movies. Very creative stuff. Talk about some of those.
I'm just a fan of oral sex. I know when I'm really into a girl I just want to lick her all over. I think foreplay has sort of become lost. Foreplay is great. It's like being with your very first girlfriend and your sort of just exploring each other. SIMF is a throw back to some of the better blowjob movies like Shut Up and Blow Me. Good makeup, hot girls, decent locations and a little bit of a setup. Some of the setups are corny, but that's ok. It's just meant to setup a little fantasy. I want to put more of a mix in future volumes where the girls receive as well. I've done it a few times. I'm trying now to cast girls that love giving and receiving head. Especially if they can get off during it.
You realize that you're the dumbest guy in porn. You're shooing POV blowjob movies with OTHER guys getting blown. Are you nuts?
Yeah - I get that a lot. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't in any of the scenes. I just don't advertise it is me. But it is important to stay focused on what your trying to shoot and important to use solid guys so that the end product is good.
What else have you been working on?
Editing a lot. Originally this guy Dane edited my pervious titles. I started editing my own stuff after Dress Up Dolls. I was also lucky enough to befriend one of the best editors in the industry. He helps me out so much. He has an incredible eye.
If someone hasn't seen your work, what movie should they pick up first?
I think the new one :Obedience School." Dress Up Dolls is being re-released in March with an extra scene. The first three volumes of SIMF are also going to be re-released during the summer in one large package.
You've been fortunate to get work with some of the very best directors and best people in the industry. How did that come about?
It was in the right place at the right time... I met Joey Silvera through Mike Metropolis. At the time Mike was married to Kaylynn and I was helping them with their Website. I met Joey one year in Mike's suite. We started talking about porno and I mentioned that one of my favorite directors was Alex Derenzy. Joey was surprised that I even know who Alex was. I found out later Alex was Joey's mentor. I guess Joey figured I must be an ok guy if I watched Alex's stuff. It just kind of grew from there. I eventually helped him out shooting one day. A few years later it was through Joey that I met John Leslie and me and John sort of hit it off. I'm a big fan of both of them. I think Curse of the Catwoman is one of my all time favorite movies. It is pretty trippy. I used to work as a clerk in adult shop watching these guys (Joey, John, Buttman, Alex etc). It is crazy to work along side them for the last few years.
How encouraging have Joey and John been in your development?
Very. Joey has been nothing but the most encouraging. Honestly I wouldn't be shooting anything if it wasn't for Joey. He has helped me out countless times. I could never repay him.
Before you started shooting what were you doing?
I used to run adult websites. Originally I ran amateur adult sites and only did in my spare time, while I had a "real" job. I also ran this industry news site, back when there were like only 2 or 3. Now there are like 30.
How did you get into the business?
I'm supposed to tell some lame story how I fell into it, but honestly I sought it out. I started the industry news site really just to get closer to the business. It was a calculated move on my part. Somehow it worked.
Did you always have directing as a goal?
Absolutely. I went to college originally as a music major. I hurt both my wrists badly and ended up with a pretty terrible case of tendonitis. So I had to find a new career. I ended up finishing up my degree but in the process also picked up a minor in film. I just love shooting. Especially photography.
When did that seem like a reality?
It became more of a reality when I started working for Joey.
Who was your favorite girl to shoot in the new movie?
Tough one. I love Karina Kay. She is just uber sexy. It was also pretty wild to shoot Jenna Haze. In Dress Up Dolls Sativa and Jayna. Jayna took a break for awhile and just recently came back. I shot her again for the next volume of SIMF.
She's incredible.
Did you have anyone (or have you had anyone) who really surprised you with a great performance?
I think they all did great work. Mika Tan and Jake Malone really put there all into it. You can see it when you watch it. The two of them just like sex. Jake is a really underrated performer.
How do you think porn has changed since we started all those years ago?
Too many circus tricks and too many companies. The industry is bloated now. New companies pop up all the time. The talent works too much. They need breaks from performing. We'd have better product if both the women and men had a few days off here and there. These days the talent can literally work everyday. Sometimes more then once a day. I love sex, but even I wouldn't want to have sex that much.
How do you think the rise of the internet and specifically on-line journalism/criticism has changed the industry?
It is the ultimate democracy, because it has taken some of the power away from the establishment and given to people who are basically outsiders or even just fans. Look at adultdvdtalk? What other industry can fans have that much interaction and power? It's amazing.
Has your vision of what you wanted to create changed?
Not at all. If anything its grown. I think great porno can still be made and enjoyed.
Who would you really like to shoot?
Hmm... some of the big Euro girls like Mya Diamond, Angel Dark, Sandy from ClubSandy.Com
Who would you say shoots the best porn in the business right now?
Tough question... I'm biased towards Joey's stuff because I know the effort he puts into his movies and how much he really cares about the end product.
I think John Leslie's new movie all about Naomi is going to be amazing. I'll always dig Jules's stuff, especially his Asian line. I also think Chris Streams does great work. I'd love to see Chris shoot something with no rules or boundaries.
What is your take on the whole alt-porn thing?
Weren't Johnny Toxic and Kid Vegas alt-porn? What happened to them?
What's next for you?
Keep shooting, keep learning from the best and try to get better. I just upgraded from the Sony PD-150 to the Sony Z1U.
What is the best piece of advice Joey has given you?
You're only as good as the last thing you shot.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to shoot a solid stroke flick?
Watch lots of porn and go with your gut. Shoot what really turns you on. In the end someone will connect with that. We're supposed to be fantasy makers.
