What can I say about Thomas Zupko that I haven’t said already? I’ve given him great marks for some movies and scathing rebukes for others. He is one of two directors to get both a perfect score and a total zero on my review scale. That tells you a lot about how good he is and how willing he is to take chances. After a few years with Elegant Angel, Zupko is under the Hustler banner. He is also back to making features for the first time since his award-winning “Opera.” For his big return to features, Zupko went out and got one of the most popular porn girls in recent years to make a comeback film as well. As we might expect the movie opens with a poetic monologue from Kyle Stone. He seems to be Avy’s analyst, but isn’t exactly dripping with compassion. Just about the time the pretentious train is pulling into the station, we cut away to the first scene. It’s supposed to Avy’s deflowering I believe, though it’s Katie Morgan doing the horizontal bob at the bus station with Mr. Pete. Zupko keeps things arty until the action really begins, letting the natural heat from this amazing woman come out. She certainly doesn’t suck cock like a virgin. For that this movie is, it is brilliant and I applaud it. What I worry about with a movie like this is how well it might hit the mark. For hard core fans of Avy Scott this movie may come up short. Yes, she does a fantastic anal scene at the end of the move, but is one enough? As a Zupko feature, this delivers everything we could want. It is well shot with outstanding music and a complex if sometimes pretentious script. On this level, this movie delivers everything that Zupko does best. It also works sexually more often than not. What I am thinking though is that real Avy fans would want to see more of her. Yes, she does that great anal scene at the end and yes, her girl/girl with Taylor is great. On the other hand, there will be some people who just want to see a simple movie that features Avy Scott getting fucked ten ways to Sunday in five or six scenes. If that is what you’re looking for, then you have the wrong movie. I liked it for what it is and loved the scenes with Avy and Katie. As a feature it is an excellent piece of work and I’m glad to see Zupko back. As a purely strokeable Avy movie, it comes up a bit short. (Though the bonus scenes are pretty hot and totally raw.)
