It is no secret that I have not be overly kind to Eon McKai’s movies in the past. It is also no secret that he could give a shit. He has carved out his own niche and is still the king of the alt world. This latest effort is a departure from some of McKai’s previous work and what I’m about to say may come as a shock. I liked it, quite a lot at times. There are moments in this world when he captures the very best of what alt porn has to offer without a lot of the things that drive me insane. It is artistic without seeming pretentious. It is gritty and raw without being dreary or negative. Hey folks, it has a good beat and you can dance to it. That’s right; it even works as a stroke flick. It won’t make the raincoaters give up their Mike John movies, but the heat is pretty good. There isn’t much of a story here, but there is a theme and a basic tale to be told. Andy and Violet are a couple of girls who have literally fucked their way out of their small hometowns. Along the way we follow their sexual progression and it is an interesting ride. In the past McKai might have shown us the dark side of sexuality and prostitution, but this time around we watch young women who seem at least interested in sex. The set ups are very interesting, especially in the middle of the movie where stereotypical porn pacing and neon body stockings are replaced by everyday clothes and awkward dialog about doing laundry. While these are certainly potential train wrecks, they actually work. I loved the lighting during the opening scene. It is beautifully crafted without being a distraction and I am happy to see it. From the beginning McKai’s ability as a filmmaker has been evident and with this movie he mixes those skills with some good solid sex to make a truly enjoyable flick.

Young lovers Andy and Vin make out on an overpass under the harsh light of a video camera. This looks at first glance like something you would take with an old VHS camera with one of those hot spotlights. It’s much better than that however. The lighting is quite clever They move from the overpass to someplace a bit more private, but still outdoors. With the same limited lighting we watch as Andy squats and takes his dick into her mouth. This is just the first course though as they continue to wander the streets looking for a place to enjoy one another. We don’t see a lot of outdoor sex scenes at night so this is unique and it’s nicely shot. There is a definite style here, but it enhances the action rather than obscuring it. I like the energy here and the lighting just adds a nice gritty layer to your basic doggy slam and facial pop scene.

Violet Skye & Dane Cross

At a crossroads in her life Violet is staying with Dane. They share some genuinely awkward moments that add a good deal of sexual tension. This isn’t your typical porn set up with a lingerie-clad chick in Frankenhooker shoes being force-fed Readi-wood from the opening bell. They get there eventually, but this is interesting and a little tense. The build up helps because in the end we are still looking at a porn scene on the couch, but by the time Dane puts his dick into Violet you actually feel like they might have some desire for one another. There is good energy without any over the top porn tricks from Violet. The camerawork is mostly steady with some movement and a bit of shake that serves to remind us that we are supposed to be watching something that hasn’t been entirely staged. She tilts her head back and finishes him on her mouth.

Things get a little harder to watch during the next scene. As in the opener Andy looks good and stars in a scene that features very impressive lighting. While the first scene used the lighting to enhance the sex, this one gets a little heavy handed. Again it’s a style thing and if I were looking at this simply as an exercise in how to make something look really cool I would feel differently. In the end we are still supposed to be turned on and I think the lighting and editing cause this one to miss the mark a bit. If that doesn’t bother you at all then the scene itself is pretty good. The relationship with between the two is a bit unclear, but she seems to be having a lot of fun and delivers a very good blowjob in the middle of this scene.

Violet Skye & Daniel

Violet is now ready to hook up with Daniel and he seems to have an easier time getting her naked than Dane did. It still has a nice progression and she fucks him like she wants him. The camerawork feels a little disjointed, but again it’s a style thing. I think it might be wearing thin because the sex behind it is so good. I’d actually like to see what Violet looks like in a completely framed shot for more than a few seconds. Don’t get me wrong, there is enough good stuff here to make this a good sex scene. Violet’s body is great, her energy is even better and she takes a big load on her face. If not for a slightly overpowering sense of style this might well have been the best scene of the movie.

Andy San Dimas & Alec Knight

Now out of her hometown and presumably working in porn, Andy hooks up with Alec. They pick out some wardrobe and she gets right into it. She is all tarted up now and furious finger fucks her little pussy like a good porn star. The cuts between the POV camera and the long short are jarring and certainly show a wall between the reality and the hard-pounding fantasy world created by the camera. Big style points here for the way this scene is shot. It’s cool, it has some edge to it and it still leaves the raincoaters with enough to stroke to. At some point her dirty talk becomes funny and I think that was the point. Andy really has become the complete porn girl. After screaming “cum on my fucking face” about a hundred times she finally gets what she asked for.
