THE PIPELINE: SEPTEMBER 2004
It’s September again my friends and you know what that means. Baseball is coming down to the wire, football is right at our doorstep, college campuses are filled with a whole new crop of freshmen who we hope will have enough financial trouble to need to head for Porn Valley and of course we must mourn the passing of yet another bikini season. I hope you all had a chance to get away from home, catch some rays and recharge the batteries a bit. It has been pretty much business as usual around the Casa de Pipe, just a whole lot hotter in the office. I don’t know about all of you, but I really miss the good old days when summer meant three full months of sun, surf and babe-watching. These days I am lucky to squeeze in a week away from the home/office as a reward for 51 weeks of hard work. (OK 50, I can’t exactly call a week in Vegas every January “hard” work now can I?) At any rate, life, especially in Porn Valley rolls on even as teachers catch up on their reading and stores stock up on back to school fashions.
As many of you read this, the Republican National Convention will be in full swing. Last month the Democrats had their party in Boston and that one went pretty much the way the RNC will in NYC. Lots and lots of funny hats, cheering party devotees and platforms that ignore the big issues. In two more months this will all be over and the rest of the porn press will give us four years of “oh no, the sky is falling” or “yes we endorsed this guy so we will ignore all threats to porn for his four years.” Whichever way it turns out we can count on a few things. No matter who wins, porn will continue to be something for the Feds to attack, the adult press will continue to march right over the cliff with one party while blaming everything on the other and of course we can count on a few hundred thousand “hooray for our side” posts on the net. I’ll be glad when the whole thing is over. Too much hate, too much bumper-sticker mentality and not even an ounce of focus on the real issues has left me just a tad disillusioned and bitter. Perhaps I should follow some of my colleagues and just blindly follow without thinking or questioning.
Though the battle seemed to be over just hours after it started, web surfers were treated to a front-row seat in the skirmish between KSEX Radio and former show hosts Selena and Kent Silver. The duo had a good run on KSEX that came apart suddenly after a dispute over the KSEX games and compensation for Selena’s appearance. They ripped the station in a long internet post that was removed, but resurfaced on KSEX’s message forum as part of their defense of the situation. Since I haven’t spoken to either side I am going to be very careful to let their words stand for themselves. It boils down to whether or not Selena should have been paid for the KSEX games, was lied to about the sale of DVDs and how such grievances should be resolved. With any luck the situation will blow over and be settled peacefully. If not, you’ll hear plenty more about it next month.
Speaking of KSEX, they have filled the time slot formerly occupied by Selena with a new show. The “Porn Hunnies” is hosted by Flower Tucci and Maria Mendez. They review the latest porn flicks and show clips every Wednesday. The lovely girls have also called upon yours truly to do a phone-in selection once a week. I will be picking a featured title, much as I did on Bob Berkowitz’s show back in the Eyada days. We did our first show last week and everything went swimmingly. Hopefully the audience will be able to focus on what I’m saying while watching the incredibly sexy Flower try and talk the still X-rated virgin Maria right out of her clothes. I also hope that I can concentrate enough to be somewhat coherent.
You have heard me talk about the incredible Teagan Pressley for the entire year. Ever since I met this stunning young babe in Vegas I have been driving the bandwagon at full speed. Her fantastic gonzo performances and great, looks have earned her a host of loyal fans. They have also earned her a contract with Digital Playground. Joining Jesse Jane and Devon, young Teagan gives DP a girl-next-door type who gives everything she has in her scenes. She will make her Digital Playground debut in “Jack’s Playground 14” which will hit stores in September. Teagan will also co-star with Jesse in Robby D’s movie “Contract Star.” Though fans of her raincoater work will miss seeing her in gonzo sex scenes, we still have several months’ worth of stroke material (including a brand new Jules Jordan scene with Teagan taking on two guys) to hold us over until her career as a contract star kicks off. I wish her luck and congratulate DP for a great sign and for finally seeing what I have been screaming for eight months. Teagan is the bomb, period.
Lexington Steele’s Mercenary Pictures is up and running at full speed. He is behind the camera for several lines and has turned over the “Superwhores” line to Domina X. The out-spoken director has already been working behind the camera on the “Black Reign” movies and now will bring her unique style to movies with white chicks as well. Given her penchant for getting women to go totally butt-wild, I think we are in for quite a treat. Look for interviews with both Lex and Domina later this month.
Private announced two major changes this month. The first is that starting with the release of “A Woman’s Ass is a Beautiful Thing”, Private USA will be assuming control of the Xtreme line. The previous 12 movies have been directed by some of the best director’s in Europe. Who will they land once the Skeeter Kerkove movies are all finished? That is the sort of thing that will keep the rumor mills churning in months to come. In an even more significant development, Private USA announced that as of November of this year, they will no longer release their new titles on VHS. This is a dramatic shift from a major porn company and could finally spell the beginning of the end for the VHS format. The trend towards DVD crosses into mainstream as well. Most California Blockbuster stores have moved away from VHS and now stock almost exclusively DVDs. After just a few short years, DVDs are on the brink of wiping out VHS tapes entirely. Hey, with the new thinner box designs think of all the space porn collectors can save.
The 20th annual XRCO Awards took place in Century City last month. I was on vacation and missed the show which is too bad. As always the nominees represented a good mix of feature and gonzo with some interesting categories. Axel Braun’s “Compulsion” took home the award for Best Film and I was pretty happy about that. Wicked’s “Beautiful” won in the Best Video category. Ashley Blue added the XRCO Best Performer to her AVN Performer of the Year award, giving her the sweep. Manuel Ferrara picked up the nod as Best Male. Lauren Phoenix and Ben English were named as the top new performers in the biz. Jules Jordan walked away with three more awards including a much-deserved Best Director nod. XRCO gives out some fun awards like Teen Cream Dream (Cytherea), Superslut (Julie Night), Orgasmic Oralist (Felicia Fox) and of course the Unsung Swordsman and Siren which went to Steve Holmes and Sabrine Maui respectively. Congratulations to all of the nominees and especially to the winners. I’m sure it was a whole lot of fun.
When Jesse Jane isn’t busy making movies or getting her face and body plastered all over mainstream magazines, she is working on her web site. www.jessejane.com took a while to get going, but it is up and running and offers fans a great look at the blonde superstar. Any site that takes a year and a half to build is bound to be packed with pictures, but fans can also read all about Jesse’s life and check out her print resume. I’ll be checking it out and hopefully review the site for everyone next month.
This just in. Vincent Vega is one lucky mother fucker. Adam & Eve announced that contract star Carmen Luvana was finally going to give up her sweet little ass. Vincent will get to go where no man has gone before in Nic Orleans’ “The Perfect Secretary.” Carmen teased fans with some anal play during an appearance on the Howard Stern show, but is now ready to go all the way. Yes my friends, Vincent is one lucky mother fucker.
That is about all the news we have time for this month. Before I go I wanted to address some feedback I got from last month. It seems that at least a few of you appreciated my talk about the Libertarian Party. Thanks for the support. It is nice to know that some of you can read and think beyond the simple mono-syllabic political rhetoric that paints anyone who questions John Kerry’s math as a neo-con or anyone who thinks that the President has questions to answer is a traitor. Like all porn fans, I worry about what John Ashcroft has in store for adult. Unlike other adult journalists however, I also wonder why we should support a candidate who refuses to side with us openly and who is looking to take extra spending cash out of the pockets of the very people who wish to spend it on porn. Politics is serious business and pithy, partisan back and forth should be reserved for arguing about the BCS. “We’re number 1” is fine for football, but if “Bush Sucks” or “Kerry is a Loser” is the best you can come up with, then we’re all in a world of hurt.
