THE PIPELINE: JULY 2004
I can’t believe that by the time many of you read this summer will be half over. I hope everyone will have a safe and sane 4th of July celebration. (Need all those fingers for proper stroking and all.) The opening of my column is usually reserved for a tease of the next few pages or some quirky reference to whatever holiday falls in that month. This month I would like to be a little more serious if I may. If my foreign readers will excuse me for a moment I would like to take just a moment to recognize the men and women of the American armed forces. Wherever you are and no matter how anyone feels about the mission you have been given, we appreciate your courage, dedication and sacrifice. Stay safe and come home soon.
In early June, adult film legend turned health activist Sharon Mitchell made an appearance in an Orange County, CA courtroom. Called by the defense in a gang rape trial, Mitchell offered her expert opinion on prosecutions key piece of evidence, a video tape of the alleged crime. After watching a tape of a sixteen year old girl apparently drugged and unconscious as three classmates violate her with foreign objects including pool cues and juice bottles. In Mitchell’s opinion, the girl appeared to be conscious, and the industry veteran added that the teens seemed to making a porn movie. Conveniently this was the defense’s claim all along. Mitchell went on to say that there is a large market for such videos and that performers are often asked to play dead or unconscious. Though her testimony contradicted police and medical experts, Mitchell was adamant about the girl and about this huge market for passed out girls in videos. I did some extensive research and found a mere handful of movies in the last two decades to even touch the topic. Her testimony in the face of overwhelming evidence on behalf of three teenage boys accused of a heinous crime has raised red flags throughout Porn Valley. Many find it ironic that the woman in charge of protecting the health and well-being of hundreds of new teenagers each year would seem to damage her credibility as a gun for hire to help get rapists off. It didn’t matter much in the big picture though. The judge refused to allow Mitchell’s testimony and the jury was deadlocked on all counts, temporarily freeing the three accused rapists. Perhaps Ms. Mitchell will be allowed to testify in their re-trial.
Los Angeles played host to the Erotica LA convention last month. It was an opportunity for fans to come out and see some of their favorite porn stars. I haven’t attended the event in a few years and found it interesting that the balance of exhibitors has somewhat shifted away from production companies. Though companies such as Red Light District, Wicked, Platinum X Pictures and DVSX were in attendance, some of the big guns were missing. Vivid, VCA, Elegant Angel, Anabolic and Evil Angel were among the companies who did not have a booth at Erotica LA this year. There were plenty of places to buy racy T-shirts, fetish gear, sex toys or to find smut on the web. Clearly the adult industry is expanding and diversifying. I talked with quite a few people and took some photos in between my interview opportunities.
One of the Erotica LA interviews I got was with Gen Padova. The super-cute little hottie is back after treatment for Leukemia. Her health is good and she is shooting scenes on a regular basis. I asked her if she had run into any problems with porn guys feeling they needed to take it easy on her. Though she hasn’t run into that situation, Gen did say that at least one MENSA candidate was worried about shooting with her because he didn’t want to “catch what she has.” It’s good to see our public education system at work isn’t it?
I also sat down with Jill Kelly contract girl Cindy Crawford. This was my first JKP interview ever (Jenna Haze did hers before her contract.) and it was quite a good one if I do say so myself. We talked about her new lines and about how she has become the official “nasty girl” for JKP. The biggest surprise form the interview was how open Cindy was about her lack of interracial scenes. She also had a personal message for Mr. Marcus. For that you’re going to have to stayed tuned and read the interview.
Jewel De’Nyle and Kylie Ireland were manning the Platinum X Pictures booth. Jewel looked great and Kylie has slimmed down quite a bit. She sat on my lap for a very long interview that covered her long and successful career. Fans will be happy to see that she is following Jewel’s lead and getting as nasty as she possibly can for her new PXP releases. She promised that her first movie will feature a series of things we have never seen from Kylie before. I’m hoping that will include a blowjob with a certain porn critic, but couldn’t get confirmation on that one.
Tera Patrick made her Vivid debut in June with the release of “Tera , Tera, Tera.” Though I was not pleased to hear that she gone under the knife, I must admit that her new boobs are pretty nice looking. Tera performers with her husband and does her first girl/girl scene with fellow V-Girl Savannah Sampson. The two later team up with Tera’s man for a three-way finale that makes him a very lucky man. It looks like Tera is back to stay, at least for a while. If I can just get Vivid to shoot some titles my way
Tera’s former company, Digital Playground took a step to keep their team in tact for another year. They have re-signed blonde contract babe Devon for another year. She joins Jesse Jane to create a formidable tag team of busty blonde babes who just seem to get nastier as time goes by. Of her new contract, Devon said “I’m thrilled to re-sign exclusively with Digital Playground. They have taken fantastic care of me and I look forward to many more successes with them.”
This was a good month for fans of celebrity sex tapes. Red Light District released “One Night in Paris” starring the lovely Paris Hilton. They have taken the sex scenes that were on the net for a few months, cleaned them up, added some bonus scenes and turned it into the most sought after release of the year. Though it won’t command the kind of interest that we saw from Pam or Pairs, Survivor alum Jenna Lewis has her own sex romp out there as well. It is only available on the web at this point, but I imagine it will be on video or DVD soon. With all of the reality shows on TV and the growing number of celebrity sex tapes popping up, we may one day have a whole movie packed with our favorites from Survivor, Big Brother, Amazing Race and the like.
Word is that Rocco Siffredi is ready to call it quits sometime very soon. He may still direct, but apparently his performing days are numbered. I wonder if AVN will get rid of their best European Male Performer award now we no longer have to qualify the argument of who is the best. In other porn guy news, Erik Everhard returned to Canada recently for his high school reunion. Though I heard about it too late to pack up a film crew and shoot the event, I did talk to him about it for a bit at Erotica LA. I’ll get the full story when he gets back from Europe, but suffice it to say that Erik lived out a fantasy that I’m sure every guy reading this can relate to.
