THE PIPELINE: FEBRUARY 2004
Hello there everyone and Happy Valentine’s Day to you. Hopefully you have all recovered from a wild New Year’s Eve and are ready to get back to the business of smut. Though I took it easy on NYE, I made up for it the following day with a trip to the Rose Bowl to watch the USC Trojans take their share of the national title by smacking the Michigan Wolverines around. It was a great time and trust me my friends, I was working. I scanned the stands looking for new talent and did my best to recruit some of them into the biz. We will have to wait and see how successful I was. After that wonderful start to the year, it was off to Vegas for the Adult Expo. I spent three days in the desert, interviewing, attending parties and taking pictures, returning home with lots of news, rumors and awards to talk about. As usual, the winter lull in Porn Valley was broken by the annual gathering in Las Vegas. That means that there is a lot to tell you in a very short time.
Before leaving for AVN’s Adult Expo, I announced the winners of the 2003 Rog Reviews Critic’s Choice awards. For the third year in a row Aurora Snow collected the trophy for Best Female Performer. Erik Everhard was a repeat winner as Best Male Performer. It was a third consecutive win for Evil Angel directors as Joey Silvera was named Best Director. Mike John’s “Lewd Conduct 16” from Diabolic took home Best All-Sex movie honors. Thomas Zupko won his second RRCC award for Best Feature with his movie “Opera” from Elegant Angel. Evil Angel’s “The Fashionistas” was named Best DVD after winning as Best Feature last year. Since the trophies were not ready for AEE, they are sitting here in my office. If any of the winners are reading, contact me and we’ll set up a time for me to present you with your trophy. Congratulations to all of the winners and thanks to everyone for their support.
In Vegas, the Adult Expo showroom was packed with new companies, proving that the porn biz is booming. Following the success of Red Light District and DVSX, several companies showed up hoping to be the next big thing. Cherry Boxxx, Sineplex and Evolution Erotica had strong showings at the expo. I picked up a number of interviews at the Digital Playground, Anabolic/Diabolic and Red Light booths. Let me just share a few tidbits. Shlya is back with a brand new set of hooters that are so good that they even passed the “feel me” test. She may have some big news to share with us soon. Anabolic had the hottest new girl of the year in their booth, Eighteen year old Tegan is cute, classy and totally prepared to take the porn world by storm. Digital Playground’s Devon plans a full year of work in 2004 with a number of movies slated for release. There were plenty of other highlights, but you will have to read the interviews to hear everything.
I dropped by the Evolution booth and talked with Lizzy Borden for a while. She looked great and we talked about another interview some time soon. I also met Guy Capo for the first time. Evolution’s new director was very pleasant and we are going to have a sit down when I pay a visit to the offices. Calli Cox was looking fantastic at the Shane’s World booth, showing me some hot new girls who ended up a little too busy for me to interview this time. Katie Morgan was at the DVSX booth looking super cute and flashing her winning smile when I stopped by.
It didn’t go so well at every booth this year. I wasn’t able to interview the great line-up of talent at the Cherry Boxxx booth because of a mix up. Once again I tried to get close to the Vivid and Wicked booths to get interviews with the contract girls. As always, I had no luck at all so I missed out on Jenna Jameson, Tera Patrick, Stormy and of course one of my faves, Kaylani Lei. I had my usual luck with the Jill Kelly girls as well, missing Haven and Jenna Haze and not coming close to any of the other girls. Come on, what gives? It also didn’t quite work with Video Team. Every time I had a free minute, their booth was crazy. Perhaps we can get some of their girls soon. I also didn’t get a chance to get near the Private booth or to talk with Skeeter Kerkove about his new contract with them. Oh well, there is always next year.
Despite those setbacks, I had a great time and talked to some old friends. Aurora Snow looked awesome as usual, signing for a line of fans at the Sin City booth. Lexington Steele was there, on his own with no big announcement for us just yet. Erik Everhard and Mike John promised to set up a little interview/beer session in next month or so. Thomas Zupko was walking the floor with William H when he found out about his RRCC win. I also had the chance to talk to a number of my friends from Adult DVD talk, readers and porn fans from all over the world. It was a shorter trip for me this year, but just as busy and a lot of fun as always.
ANV had their awards in Vegas and passed out over a hundred statues to lucky winners in dozens of categories. Ashley Blue and Michael Stefano took home the big individual awards as female and male performers of the year. Wicked contract babe Stormy was names Starlet of the Year, beating out a really strong field. Wicked’s “Beautiful”, Vivid’s “Heart of Darkness” and Adam & Eve’s “Rawhide” were the big feature winners of the night. Jules Jordan’s work earned him five awards proving that AVN is catching up with what porn fans really love.
Sin City is going to have to say good-bye to PR rep Tina Tyler. She has resigned that position to return to performing for another year. This is bad news for Sin City, but good news for porn fans who will get to see her back in front of the camera. “The industry has gained back one of its finest and most legendary performers,” said Tyler’s own PR rep, Jason Sechrest, in a statement made Friday morning. “Tina knows she only has a certain amount of time left as a performer and she wants to leave when she’s still looking at her best and at the top of her game. She’s in her sexual prime, you know? She wants to squeeze in as much cock on camera as possible this year and intends to go out with many literal bangs. She also intends to direct more this year. She misses that creative process.” Welcome back Tina. Sin City’s loss is our gain. I guess another interview is in order soon.
Anyone who enjoys reality TV has probably already seen Ron Jeremy on “The Surreal Life 2.” I haven’t missed and episode yet and I have to say that Ron has been representing the industry beautifully. It shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise though. Anyone who has listened to Ron speak for an extended period of time or has taken the time to see past his clown prince of porn image knows that he is a kind, intelligent and funny man. Sharing a house with Tammy Faye, Vanilla Ice and Eric Estrada is bound to drive anyone crazy, but Ron has dealt with it with humor, grace and even a bit of modesty. (So far he hasn’t whipped out the meat and tried to blow himself.)
Tina Tyler isn’t the only one with comeback on her mind. Last year’s RRFF winner Bisexual Britni made a special one-time only comeback last month. Jewel De’Nyle called her up and asked to do a scene with Ginger Lynn, Teri Weigel, Katja Kassin, Julie Night and Jewel herself. That was just too much great pussy for the petite sex fiend to pass up. From all reports, it was a great scene and all of the women left very happy. We can all look forward to seeing this all-star veggie fest later in the year.
Now that the AEE is over and the first round of awards has been passed out, we can look forward to plenty of moves in Porn Valley. We are all still waiting to see where Lex will end up. Rumors are flying about the state of RLD. What did Tina Tyler mean about going out with a “bang?” Will Tegan accept my offer to become the next Mrs. Rog? (Now that Aurora Snow has officially declined.) Who will be the lucky guys who get to bang Jewel De’Nyle in her farewell fuck? What ever happened to the Alex Dane comeback after her one scene with Jack Napier? For answers to these and other important questions, check back for the March Pipeline. In the meantime, do something nice for the one you love.
