The winners have been announced, the trophies have been handed out and a few nominees even emailed to say thank you. Here are the RRCC for 2005, broken down…

Best Female

People have been teasing me for years that this is the Aurora Snow award. She is the only female to have won the trophy to this point. Though nominated again, Aurora didn’t have her best year so she didn’t factor too heavily into the final decision. It came down really to three women, Katja Kassin, Flower Tucci and Jasmine Byrne. All three women had fantastic years and I could easily have gone for Flower or Katja. In the end, Jasmine won out. She got her trophy on Saturday and though I don’t think she was aware of the RRCC, she was very gracious. (NOTE: None of the nominees in this category emailed or posted commenting on their nomination status.)

Best Male

This award has been won by Lex and Everhard up to this point. Both would have been a good choice I think. Erik had a stronger year because he worked more, but Lex is always someone to be reckoned with. I only caught shit over two of the names on this list, Ben and Brian. I went with Brandon who has been solid for a very long time. He got his trophy about two minutes after Jasmine got hers and was genuinely happy to have the hardware. (NOTE: Got emails/posts about nomination from Erik and Brandon, none of the others.)

Best Newbie

Once Jasmine won for Best Female, this one was kind of a no-brainer. You can’t win MVP as a rookie and not win rookie of the year as well, right? It was actually pretty close here as well. Hillary Scott is an absolute dynamo and really gave Jasmine a run for her money. I was hoping that AVN would follow me lean on Jasmine, but they gave the award to McKenzie Lee instead. (NOTE: Tiana emailed me to thank me for the nomination, Hillary and Taryn thanked me in person during their interviews in Vegas.)

Best Director

Mike John is the first non-Evil director to win this one. Jules has two and Joey one. Now Mike has his. I think it’s long overdue and with two of the Best All Sex releases to go along with a handful of other great stroke flicks, this was Mike’s year. Jules was a strong contender again this year, as were Robby, Van and Ninn. It has been suggested that I split this into feature and non-feature directors next year, but I think one category is enough for now. Mike did not get his trophies because he wasn’t in Vegas, but he did call the morning the winners went up on the site to thank me. (NOTE: No thank yous for nominations, though Jules, Van and Mike have all thanked me in person or over the phone.)

Best DVD

I have never nominated a comp before, but that Auroa/Gauge DVD is just too fucking hot. It was tough to decide which disc I wanted in this category. Pirates and Cuddly Pines are both amazing discs packed with fun extras. Value of Whores was great, Neo was hot and in the end, Jules won out with another of his fine efforts. I’m kind of wondering what to do about this category. Should it be for movies not nominated in other categories? Or should the DVDs ONLY come from titles nominated in other categories? I don’t know. Jules got his trophy on the floor for this one and can add it to his huge collection. (NOTE: Was thanked at the show by Jules and by phone by Mike for the nominations. Also heard from Tricia Devereaux on behalf of the Evil noms.)

Best Feature

No question here. Even though the list is really strong, this became a one-movie race almost from the moment Pirates hit the street. It’s that good. There were other great features though. Camp Cuddly Pines was really fantastic and shouldn’t be missed. Catherine was very impressive and I loved Darkside. The two smaller movies on this list, Bad News Bitches and Dawn of the Head are titles you should pick up. They are fun, lower key than the others and are the kind of movies that make me smile. Joone took the trophy for Digital Playground and thanked me for the award. (NOTE: Was thanked in person by Ivan, the director of Dawn of the Head. Nothing from anyone else.)

Best All Sex

A very tough call on this one. I actually love all of the movies in this category and have them all on my shelf in the permanent porn library. I went with Pervert 4 because the cast was incredible. Me Luv U was a good choice and both Once You go Black and Take it Black were very strong contenders. This is actually Mike’s second win in this category. Like before he wins it for a movie he made at the company he just left. Maybe this is a trend, but I hope not. (NOTE: Thank you emails/calls from Mike, Jules, Van and Bryan Xin.)
