Larry Flynt Explains His 500K Offer to Casey Anthony
By now I’m sure all of you who care (and there seem to be a lot of you) even a little about acquitted child-murderer Casey Anthony already know about the five hundred thousand dollar offer Hustler’s Larry Flynt made for a photo shoot of Anthony for his magazine. Response to the offer has been swift, nearly universally condemning and as disproportionate as all things Anthony have been for months.
Flynt’s offer to get the party girl turned media monster naked has been ripped in the mainstream press and by most of porn valley as well. Porn’s initial offer to Anthony following her acquittal came from Vivid who threw out a cool million if Casey would fuck and suck for the camera. Reaction to that offer was so swift that Vivid pulled the it before the ink on their press release was even dry.
No stranger to controversy, Flynt followed by offering Anthony a half million to pose for his publication and has stood strong against the backlash. This week he wrote a brief piece defending his offer.
Larry Flynt Explains Casey Anthony Offer
You can read the whole thing in a minute or two, but in it, Flynt makes some interesting points. Frankly I think that pretending that this his offer is some kind of statement about how the media has created Casey Anthony and that he believes in the verdict is a huge pile of horse shit. This is a move that is all about profit and publicity and that’s JUST FINE by me. Vivid made the offer to get their name on the news. They knew that TMZ would cum in their pants over the story and got a cheap pop for it. Flynt made the offer for the same reason he makes the million dollar offer to celebrities every year. They aren’t going to take it and gets plenty of headlines for it. It’s part of the game and we all know it. Let’s just not make it about something grander all right.
Flynt’s response did help me clarify something though. Keep in mind, I didn’t follow the Casey Anthony trial and I’m actually a bit disgusted that Mrs. Rog did. The whole thing is an insane waste of time in my eyes. It’s a show trial. Thousands of children go missing every year and this one is worthy of 24 hour coverage on multiple networks? It became a criminal justice issue AND a celebrity/entertainment news story? Why? Because Casey Anthony is young, attractive and white. (Yes I fucking said it.) I’m not exaggerating when I say that I don’t, and never did, give a shit about her one way or the other. Do I think she’s guilty? No fucking clue honestly. Most people I know who watched the trial think she is, but a jury said she wasn’t. Either way, a little girl is dead. That’s the story, but that story is true every day in places much poorer than America and it happens without the cameras and certainly without a half a million dollar offered to the killer…pardon me….accused and acquitted killer.
On the other hand, what Flynt’s response made me see is why I’m not outraged that the offers have been made. I’m not outraged because the very people who are disgusted that anyone would pay to see Casey naked have been obsessing about this chick 24/7 for months. They have been watching, reading and living the murder of that little girl. They have been blasting Casey for being a party girl, a slut, a liar and oh yeah, for killing her own daughter. The murder of a child……hold on, don’t read over those words too quickly…the MURDER OF A CHILD….has become secondary to a three-ring circus of legal games, pop culture nonsense and a burning desire to see a pretty white woman on TV every day.
The TV networks and the weekly pop culture magazines have made millions off of the death of that little girl by turning the murder trial into the latest reality TV show and we (the collective American Idiot lot of us) ate it up and asked for more. If there was a Casey Anthony pay per view site during the trial people would have happily forked over cash to see a BTS look at who did her hair on which clubbing night.
And now these same people are outraged because Larry Flynt knows he can make money by having Casey get naked? What the fuck? Is it because people want to see this chick naked that so offends the hand wringing lot of you? Good God people, think for a second. YOU have made this woman a star. You have spent your time and effort watching and reading. You have made the networks millions by making her a story, a fucking celebrity and now you want to look down your nose at someone who might actually want to see her naked? What’s the fucking difference? That’s the part that kills me. It’s OK to know more about what this woman did in the weeks after her daughter’s disappearance than you do about the war in Afghanistan, the debt ceiling debate or the daily assault on our personal freedoms and you DARE to look down your nose at people who might want to see this woman than turned into a celebrity without her clothes on? Hello, that was a huge glass wall you just threw your stone through.
So if Larry Flynt or Vivid or TMZ want to make some money off the sheep who turned Casey Anthony from just another mom who went nuts and killed her kid into the single most important story in the world then I say let them. You guys turned her into this and these days, anyone famous for two seconds gets run through the porn rumor mill. Deal with it. Maybe next time you won’t turn a common criminal…..sorry, accused and acquitted criminal into anything more than a blip on the pop culture radar.
I won’t be buying Hustler if Casey poses any more than I was willing to do anything but change the channel EVERY time I saw her.
That’s just how I choose to exercise my freedom of choice. Your results may vary.
