Rog Podcasts: 2014 AVN Awards Voting: Part Two
Thanks for the early feedback. We already have one comment (Thanks Don) and had a really good Twitter conversation about BBW porn (Thanks Kelly Shibari). Keep it coming folks. And if you missed the first podcast it’s linked here below. In part two, we discuss best anal series, release and scene as well as amateur porn.
For the third year in a row, I am going to do a series of podcasts dedicated to the 2014 AVN Awards, the nominees and the voting process. The clips will be here for you to enjoy. Please feel free to comment below or drop me an email with any questions or topics or thoughts send to rog@rogreviews.com or @RogerTPipe on Twitter.
As a voter for the past several AVN Awards, I have been lucky enough to take part in this huge event. The podcasts will cover the process as well as break down several of the categories. They will highlight some of my favorites and discuss some interesting choices and the “can’t miss†titles/performers from the past year.
I hope you enjoy these. As always, your feedback is very welcome. Let me know what you think of the podcasts, the categories, the voting, tell me I am wrong or just tell me how fucking great this whole thing is.

Excellent point on the combining of genres, putting intense sexual gonzo against watered down erotica sure to create a division among voters. I favor gonzo like you do so putting something less interesting, particularly when the big gonzo companies are casting great, high end top performers while the smaller companies seem to have one or two good names at best (most of the time).
Weapons versus Wet is a big plus but at this writing, JJV had not sent out voting screeners so while you and I know how amazing they were, other voters will likely be put off if they did not otherwise see the titles. I am currently looking locally for a handful of titles that have not come in for voting (which ends in a week), I doubt very much that the majority of voters are going to skip so many high profile gonzo categories involving JJV (again, I see them all year long like you do); the term “too big to fail” coming to mind in a couple of ways (dozens of titles in a great many of the categories; often arguably the best or close to the top). Perhaps there should be a provision for a neutral mark if a voter has seen 13 or 14 out of 15 titles in a category. the better answer being a longer voting period and companies shipping titles more promptly if not all year long to known voters.
Now a question: How do you go about picking a best director or performer (regardless of category)? Do you look at their body of work for the year and add points for good flicks, subtract for weaker efforts, or do you focus on picking a handful of titles you liked a lot or what? I always struggle with this and try to incorporate social media presence (how they treat people, how active), blogging, and other industry participation where appropriate just as I try to see all the better features for the “acting” categories. Anyway, I’m always looking to be more comprehensive, that old OCD kicking in. :)
