New Stuff: Either today or sometime tomorrow I should have the first audio interview added to the site. I know, it’s way overdue, but after more than 300 text interviews I am finally going to add a little sound to the mix. The first such interview is with Steve Steele of www.SteveSteelePresents.com. BCS Title Game Set: So after the nightmare in Pasadena, USC is back out of the title game and Florida is in. We’ve now got a month to beat to death the idea that Michigan may or may not have been totally jobbed. That could take weeks so let’s just say that we have two really good games set up. OSU gets Florida and USC gets Michigan in the Rose Bowl. That may end up being the game of the bowl season.

AVN Noms: Performers Part 2: Now we get to the really big awards. These lists are always controversial, but the addition of two new categories should help make sure that fewer deserving women get overlooked this year. We’ll break it down a bit, but one has to wonder if there is a built-in hierarchy to these awards now.

All right, so this is the award for the best contract star. It is kind of interesting because when we think of “contract girls” we think of Vivid and Wicked. We think of babes who look great but often give lukewarm sexual performances. No one can accuse many of these ladies of that. Right at the top you have Ashley Blue and Audrey Hollander, two of the biggest sluts (And I mean that in the best way) in the industry. They are anything but typical when it comes to contract girl behavior. There are plenty of names from the softer feature companies including Carmen, McKenzie, Story and Tera. One would think that one of these women might have the best chance to win. I always find it tough to vote against Jesse Jane. She’s great looking and when the projects allow her to, she fucks like a wild stallion. If acting is even considered in this category, then you have to throw Stormy, Jessica and Joanna into the mix. All three of them did great work this year and they don’t come up short on the sex scenes either. My biggest question about this one (and Best Foreign Performer for that matter) is whether or not someone who is a contract girl would be eligible for the other award. It raises some questions, especially if one were to argue that one of these women were simply the best performer in the industry. If that were the case, would she be up for this award by virtue of her contract status, or just Performer of the Year, or both? Interesting questions indeed.

A few years ago I caught a lot of shit for calling the Best Female category a “weak” list. No such worry this year. I’m not about to call this collection anything but solid from top to bottom. Belladonna returned to full time performing duties with a bang this year. She would probably be a heavy favorite, though I don’t think I would look that way for a winner. Flower was strong again this year, but didn’t have quite the same fire she had in 05. Hillary Scott is getting a lot of talk and deservedly so. She has done some killer sex scenes, is open to just about every kind of activity known to porn. In addition to her gonzo girl cred, she also gave us memorable performances in both Britney Rears 3 and Corruption. Not many women possess this kind of sexual heat and the ability to do both comedy and drama. If anyone is going to beat Hillary though, it might be Jenna Haze. She’s been a fave for a while and really broke out this year. Kimberly Kane and Kinzie Kenner are two of my favorite women in porn right now and they should also get some consideration. I think that Sunny Lane might be the dark horse here. She’s cute, she fucks well and she can act. There, did I cover everyone? I won’t say who I’m voting for, but chances are I have used her name in this paragraph. No complaining about women who didn’t make this list, but I will wonder out loud how Gianna managed to be left off both Performer and Starlet. I think you can make a case for her as the top performer in 2006.

Will this finally be the year that Erik Everhard wins his first MPY award? I would tend to say that he probably won’t though he probably deserves it. This is one of those lists that really shows how top heavy the male talent pool is. All of the guys on this list are solid performers and they are certainly better than the dozens and dozens of mopes who work on a daily basis. When you take the cream off the top, Everhard, Lex, Manuel, Stefano, Evan Stone and maybe Scott Nails, you’re left with guys who are a huge step down from the top rung of the ladder. If I were going to bet, I’d put money on Manuel, but it’s tough to argue against Erik or Lex any year.

This is another new category and it’s probably long overdue. Much like the XRCO’s “Unsung Siren” award, it gives some lesser-know, hard working babes a chance to shine. Most of you know every single name on this list, but they aren’t the kind of women who usually win awards. I’m a huge fan of this new category and think whoever made the decision to include it should be given a big pat on the back. Who should win the award? That’s a super tough call. Alana Evans has been one of the best performers for a long time. Katja Kassin simply is one of the best fucks in the business. Charmane is gorgeous, Annie Cruz is highly underrated and then we have Mika Tan. In June I had her at the top of my personal faves list and she certainly hasn’t done anything to sour me on that feeling. Does that mean I think she should win? I don’t think there are many women in porn worthy of an award.
