www.ElegantAngel.com
In Part Two of the 2015 AVN Awards Podcast, we get started on some categories. First we deal with some feedback from our pal Don Houston of XCrtici.com. He has some thoughts on streaming screeners and edgy porn from B Skow. From there we cover Best All Girl Performer (Pondering whether such a category is necessary) and Best BBW Performer (Something I like). Finally we hit Best Actor and Best Actress. No sponsor for this one and so far none for Part Three (Email me for sponsorship rates)

As a voter for the past several AVN Awards, I have been lucky enough to take part in this huge event. The podcasts will cover the process as well as break down several of the categories. They will highlight some of my favorites and discuss some interesting choices and the “can’t miss†titles/performers from the past year.
I hope you enjoy these. As always, your feedback is very welcome. Let me know what you think of the podcasts, the categories, the voting, tell me I am wrong or just tell me how fucking great this whole thing is.

Hi Roger
No shout out needed for me, I’m just the OCD reviewer/critic friend of yours. ;)
1) G/G performer of the year; it was started to accommodate a handful of lesbian-only performers that, let’s face it, simply couldn’t compete against their more popular counterparts that do “more”. I watch a fair amount of G/G porn and like it more than you but more fans (and more voters) have made it clear that said women wouldn’t be able to compete against a gal that enjoys sex with men too. There are some that even want a woman who “does everything”, including IR, anal, DP’s, and all sorts of circus act sex but you can go further on the extreme and find a few that think a TS performer could compete in these categories, admittedly a stretch of the imagination for the other 99.999% of the world. In the G/G genre, some like lipstick lesbians, others like over the top women that mug for the camera, and still others like those who provide a tender approach; a few you like essentially making the same movie over and over again to limit their diversity even more.
2) BBW: Given all the hype and projects this year, there is one clear cut choice for the #1 spot; and I tease her about it all the time when she releases another half dozen press releases for herself on social media. Like you, I’m not a fan of the productions that are poking fun at the heavier women but that seems to greatly reduce the number most of the nominees are in during a given voting period. Still, after the first handful of ladies that are easily recognizable, the recognition value drops off quickly, almost to the point where I’m not sure I’ll be voting in the category (I have two team members that enjoy BBW porn so I get to watch a decent amount of it before shipping it to them but other than worrying the entire category is shoved off to a tiny number of voters, I’ll have to see what comes in over the next few weeks and when-making it time dependent).
3) Best Actor: For me, I freely admit that my picks in this category reflect who comes across as the “best actor”, not the best mimic of a mainstream actor. That is not a slight against Pistol, Gunn, or Lockwood, to mention a few you found exceptional, just that taking on uncharted territory is almost by definition more difficult. As such, Steven St. Croix truly kicked ass in Wetwork, a flick I reviewed earlier this year, and I was totally surprised at how strong Tyler Nixon acted in Aftermath, another original movie rather than a derivative parody. And lest it be said I slighted Jeremy, his take on crazy Charles Manson was very imaginative and certainly played to his strengths (but the same could be said for KL in The Gardener). Manson XXX was released at the last minute on VOD (yuck!) but if you need access or a burnt disc, I can probably arrange that for you if Pulse doesn’t ship a copy.
4) Best Actress: Same dynamics as above, Penny Pax wowed me again as she did last year, Maddy was very good in Sexual Liberation, Kim ruled in The Pornographer, Carter Cruise hit a home run in Second Chances, and Stevie Shae came out of nowhere for me in Apocalypse X, enough that I suggested she be given an ongoing series in the role. None of that takes away from Jessica, Asa, Bonnie, and others but notice how there were fewer parodies when it came to actress over actor? Perhaps I’ve just been fortunate to see all these throughout the year but this is a toss up; a category for overall acting quality versus a specific project would definitely change my line up in both 3, and 4.
General topic suggestion: How voters are not a hive mind and all apply their own tastes (and factors) in ordering the nominees.
Hi Roger, your podcasts are amazing. They are very informative and relays to the listeners that we as voters take this job very seriously. It also gives people an inside look at how a voter analyzes his way through the categories and nominations. As to your previous podcast, I would like to offer my own thoughts on the Best All Girl Performer. Even though I have the same agreements with you on having too many categories and moving into a slippery slope movement, I like that we get to acknowledge the all girl performers especially since some of them only perform with the ladies. However, I do not prefer seeing performers in this category who also perform with men. Best All Girl Performer should only have those women who ONLY perform with women. Perhaps, by limiting the nominations to those performers, then perhaps this category will be more fair and gain more acceptance.
As for the BBWs, I love the plumpier ladies. Their faces are so beautiful. It’s nice to see that these performers are involved in better quality productions that show off their talents and not portray them as freaks. Women are beautiful regardless of weight and they know how to get to men. That’s why God made them the more prettier sex. The BBW genre will continue to grow.
I admire that @sawyercleavage likes the storylines and acting performances and not only focus on the gonzo stuff. Directors and screenwriters take a lot of time and thought in creating these plotlines and dialogue as well as everything else that must be considered such as costumes, locations, music, etc. to make a high quality feature. When it comes to it, not every porno is all about the fucking even though there still needs to be very good quality screwing to be a worthy film to be nominated.
