The “Pirates” train just keeps right on rolling. How in the world can the most highly decorated adult movie of all time pad its already record-breaking total of AVN Awards? By sweeping the “Best Renting” and “Best Selling” titles at the 2007 AVN Awards. These two trophies bring the total won by Digital Playground’s epic feature from eleven to thirteen and further cement it as the biggest X-rated blockbuster of all time.
At the 24th annual AVN Awards show last Saturday, publisher Paul Fishbein presented awards to “Pirates” director Joone as well as the two female leads, Jesse Jane and Carmen Luvana. In an unscripted moment, Fishbein discussed the unparalleled success of “Pirates”, calling it a true cultural phenomenon.
Joone was thrilled with the win, commenting “I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the film, the distributors and stores for their support and of course the fans who made this possible.”
Company President, Samantha Lewis is pleased. She says, “I’d like to thank Paul Fishbein for honoring us with a special presentation and everyone at AVN for acknowledging the success of Pirates. These two awards are the most important ones we could receive. The sales and rental figures reflect the vast marketing efforts and the overall success of the title. I couldn’t be happier.”
After 67 weeks on AVN’s Top 50 Weekly Rentals and Sales Chart, “Pirates” is still going strong. Such a run is absolutely without precedent in the adult entertainment industry. The movie is also still in the top five at both Gamelink.com and AdultDVDEmpire.com.
Since it’s Hollywood-style premier at the Egyptian Theater in 2005, “Pirates” has enjoyed the sort of cross-over success that other adult movies can only dream of. The high-definition release garnered press from sources like MSNBC, Variety, LA Times, Associated Press, KDKA, Reuters, Newsweek, NY Times, Home Cinema Magazine, Tampa Bay Times, Real Detroit Weekly, LA Weekly and HD TV Total.
In May of last year, “Pirates” made the ultimate crossover by becoming the first X-Rated movie to be re-cut with an R-Rated version. Now it is available in DVD outlets that have never carried adult product before, completing the “Pirates” domination.
