Zack & Miri Make a Porno, But Not a Great Movie
My good friend Will Carroll went to see Kevin Smith’s “Zack & Miri Make a Porno” and write a really good review of it. Read the Full Review Here. Will is an excellent writer and gets across something that I feared about this flick. I’m a huge Kevin Smith fan and think that he does what he does better than anyone. This movie just doesn’t look like a Smith flick. I hung out with my sister, whose opinion on film I respect a great deal (She hated W by the way which makes me sad.) and she felt the same way as Will on this one.
I want to see Z&M but I have to be honest. It isn’t on the top of my list for a few reasons. First I don’t usually like flicks about the porn business because they always seem to miss the mark so badly. Maybe I just spend way too much time watching porn and look to mainstream films as escape. (I did love Boogie Nights and People Vs. Larry Flynt though.) My second problem with this flick is Traci Lords. I’ve just got a bit of a problem with her making a movie about an industry that she shit all over, handed to the Feds on a silver platter and blamed for everything bad in her life. Biting the hand that feeds you is one thing, but now she’s cashing in on the fame she got from the industry she pissed all over. I’m sure I will see the movie though, but when you add my pre-existing trepidation with my sister’s cool response and Will’s less than glowing review it might be a while before I trek to the multi-plex to check it out. Then again, it has Katie Morgan and I’ll watch her any day.
