Adultcon 4- A Field Report
For one afternoon, the center of the porn world migrated south a dozen or so miles from the San Fernando Valley to downtown Los Angeles. The Hyatt Regency Hotel hosted Adultcon 4 on Sunday and the place was crawling with porn stars and fans. Filling two ballrooms with dozens of booths, Adultcon attracted a few thousand attendees who lined up long before the doors opened at one in the afternoon. Inside, loud music filled the crowded hall and visitors were treated to wall to wall eye candy. Literally every booth had something for sale so there was no shortage of smut of every kind. Though not a big as the Adult Expo put on by AVN, Adultcon just keeps growing and played host to a wide variety of adult entertainment providers.
Most of the big video production companies were absent from the festivities, but a few of the new kids on the block were in attendance. With just seven releases under their belt, Platinum X Pictures had a booth that was manned by Brandon Iron, Michael Stefano and company president Jewel De’Nyle. In addition to showing off their new titles, Jewel was still anxious to talk about how Cris Taliana is on her shit-list after a recent no-show for a video shoot. The take no prisoners attitude that Jewel brings to her movies carries over into all aspects of life at Platinum X Pictures. Her message was clear, if you a book a shoot for Platinum X, you damn well better show up.
Fresh off a successful in-store signing at Hustler Hollywood last week, Seymore Butts’ Tushy Girls drew quite a crowd. Mari Possa, Flower, Belladonna, Avy Scott and Reina Leone gave fans a thrill by posing for pictures, singing photos and selling DVDs. Avy was once again looking beyond hot as she showed off the best natural boobs in the business. I also understand that Reina will be starring in an upcoming Seymore video thus putting her on the fast track for anal superstardom.
If Avy has the best natural breasts in the business, then Mary Carey was on hand showing off the biggest set of homegrown boobs we’ve seen in some time. Her booth was in the smaller side room, but her line was as big as almost any in the main room. With so many hot women in the room, some of the more popular stars got creative to entertain the fans. Alana Evans shared a booth, and a big pink bed with Holly Hollywood. The sexy duo let lucky fans slide in between them for some hot photo ops. Violet Blue had a huge pot o’ panties on her table and allowed fans to pick a pair for a special Polaroid. The most popular booth on the floor belonged to Kaylynn, who brought a couch with her. Always a fan favorite, she snuggled up close for each picture and sent everyone home with a smile.
In addition to the adult stars and various venders present, a number of adult media members were on hand. I had a long talk with Kevin from www.stunningcurves.com and ran into Scott Fayner from www.lukeford.com for the second time in four days. AVN’s Tod Hunter talked me for a long time about a number of topics, including my Packer pen. As Kevin said, leave it to Tod to be able to give us the complete history of a ballpoint pen. As stimulating as these conversations were, they pale in comparison to the excitement created by JizzBiz TV. They had Sin City contract beauty Karina doing on-camera interviews for them.
Not every booth was filled with adult film stars. There were plenty of websites represented as well as specialty clothing and bondage gear. KSEX Radio had a booth where I talked to Katie Morgan about her weekly show on the station. Another booth had a bondage apparatus on display, complete with a sexy young Asian woman in a schoolgirl uniform tied up and caned by a stern mistress. Of course, not every booth was filled with must-have items or can’t-miss babes. One booth featured a book of ‘erotic poetry’ that could be heard blaring over the loudspeakers. If rudimentary rhymes and bathroom limericks are your idea of good reading, then this unique item is a must-have. Otherwise, it was just annoying background noise.
Even though Adultcon 4 started at 1 in the afternoon, several booths remained empty as late as 3:15. No one every said that porn girls were the most punctual group on the planet. The aisles were not empty however as fans continued to file into the halls for hours after the show began. Judging from the throngs of people who were still jockeying for position by the time I left, I would say that Adultcon 4 was a success on every level.
