This is one of my favorite movies of 2019. I say that despite the fact that I generally don’t like really rough sex in movies. It is far too often a lifeless exercise in side show sex acts for the sake of being rough. There are a number of things that make Consent stand out. First, the sex is wildly varied. Too often, directors or performers seem to be going through the same motions in a rough sex scene or movie, as if repeating the actions, expressions and word by rote. Each of the scenes in this movie has a different feel, tone and pace. The second aspect that I found interesting was the pre-scene interviews. This isn’t anything new of course, but often these segments are mildly interesting at best. In this movie, they are truly fascinating. Listening to the female performers talk in depth about what they like, why they like it and also address the negative aspects of shooting this kind of content is what helps elevate this movie for me. The interviews with Ivy Lebelle, London River and Whitney Wright are especially enlightening. Of course this is more than an intellectual exercise in the appeal and ethics of rough sex. It is a gonzo porn flick and as such, the sex has to deliver. It does. The context helps, but the energy and the way the scenes are shot help Consent succeed where so many fail. As mentioned above, the scenes have very different energy and that works well. Ivy Lebelle and Manuel Ferrara are a dynamic pair and when they are both unleashed, the results are wildly energetic and hot. Emily Willis is one of the most attractive women working in porn right now. Her scene felt more submissive than rough, and it works. She is wonderful to watch. Whitney Wright gets passed around by three guys in a very energetic scene that earned the Best Gangbang Scene nomination. It is really good. Dana joins London River for the finale and it is wild. London is perhaps the most enthusiastic about rough sex and it shows in the three-way. I loved Dana’s contributions to this last scene. She is a fantastic performer. I enjoyed the movie on every level. As a gonzo flick focused on rough sex it is beautifully shots with an attractive cast that really goes all out when it comes to energy and ferocity. As a study in rough sex it is interesting and important. And as a template for what the genre can be, it is a brilliant standard bearer.
Ivy Lebelle & Manuel Ferrara
The lengthy interview leading into this scene is absolutely riveting. Ivy’s take on good vs. bad rough sex and good vs. bad on-camera sex is quite enlightening. Manuel’s part of the interview is also quite compelling. By the time the action started I had almost forgotten that I was watching a hardcore movie. The scene starts with Ivy getting on her knees and using her hands to help with the blowjob. They work the rough sex in slowly, with some choking and face slapping that seems to really amplify Ivy’s intensity. The dirty talk has her praising his techniques as he gets harder and even slaps her face repeatedly. He finishes with a load on her face and a final few hard strokes from behind. This isn’t really the sort of sex I enjoy watching, but seeing it in context after the thoughtful interviews is interesting. Ivy’s obvious enjoyment also makes it much hotter than it might have been.
Emily Willis & Bill Bailey
Emily Willis is a beautiful young performer who brings her perspective to the interview. She has a very different vibe from Ivy and that makes the conversation quite interesting. The interview is shorter, but in place of that, we get to see Emily and Bill Bailey go over the things she likes and doesn’t like. Clear communication is crucial when it comes to rough sex and consent. Emily starts the scene on her knees with her mouth wide open. She is absolutely beautiful and very aggressive as she sucks his cock. Aggressive seems to be the operative word as Billy starts banging her with the same level of energy. Emily is quite the anal performer and rolls into piledriver for some absolutely outstanding backdoor action. The big shot on her pretty face at the end is a perfect cap to a gonzo anal scene that is nicely shot, very energetic without being so rough as to scare off most people.
Whitney Wright, Michael Vegas, Mick Blue & John Strong
The interview on this one is shorter, but Whitney still has some good things to say about when she likes rough sex and how she handles scenes that don’t go the way she wants them to. She is a very pretty woman and looks great in this scene. I like the creative shots on display here. We get some really cool footage through a big glass window as she sucks and strokes his cock. Once she gets warmed up, Whitney moves on and starts sucking more cock. With three guys to play with it, she has plenty of time to work up to anal, DP and then some air tight action. Whitney is not at all shy about talking dirty and the sexual heat in this scene is truly fantastic. There are some shots of RCA that are as hot as anything in the movie. The guy set her up for three facials and Whitney keeps the energy level up through all of them. This is just a really great scene.
London River, Markus Dupree & Dana Vespoli
We go back to a very long form interview between Dana and London River. It is riveting and delves deep into the idea of consent and how it varies from shoot to shoot. London is very into extreme activities on and off camera and how that fits and sometimes doesn’t fit with on set sex is fascinating. After that long interview we get to see Dana in action with the busty blonde. It starts with some light slapping, plastic wrap over her head and clothespins on her tongue. London wasn’t kidding about liking pain and Dana knows how to inflict just the right amount. Markus Dupree joins the fray and immediately starts fucking London’s ass. Dana is right there with a hungry mouth and a willing butthole. Using a sizeable strap on, Dana helps Markus double stuff London’s holes. There is some great looking footage here and some really interesting combinations as Dana fucks London in the ass while riding Markus with her own booty. This is a really hot scene with incredibly rough sex. London takes is well, but for me, Dana kind of steals the spotlight. They end up sharing the load at the end of a scene that leaves everyone exhausted.
