Whew, things are going way too quickly this year. Spring is in full swing and summer is right around the corner. This used to be a time when porn news slowed down, but these days there is always somewhere to rush off to. There is always a new awards show to report on, a new contract girl coming or going and of course, always some new internet feud to ponder. There are things in the outside world as well. Presidential debates, 72 hours of NFL draft coverage and of course the never-ending drama fest that is Rosie O’Donnell. (I swear she has as much drama in her life as your average porn girl.) Let’s keep the outside world on the outside for this column and just focus on what is going on in that tiny little area just above Los Angles; the territory we know as “Porn Valley.”
It is time once again for fans to rush to the polls and vote for their favorite stars. The FAME Awards will be passed on June 9th during Erotica LA. The fan-based voting is currently (At the time of this writing) entering the final phases. It should come as a shock to no one that the current queen of porn, Hillary Scott is among the eight finalists for Female Performer of the Year. She’s won ever award imaginable and it would take a mighty upset for someone to take her down. Of course, Jesse Jane, Tera Patrick, Jenna Jameson, Stormy Daniels or Belladonna could always sneak in there and steal it from Ms. Scott. Awards for Favorite Oral and Anal Starlet are up for grabs as well as Best Male. If Favorite Breasts go to anyone but Gianna, I think there should be a riot and boob lovers should torch all of downtown LA. The Top Rookie crop is interesting and includes tough to be beat Amy Reid and Sasha Grey. It also has long shots Dana DeArmond and Tia Tanaka so that should be fun to watch. The Favorite Movie votes probably won’t match up with the critic’s choices, but Jenna Haze Darkside might have a chance. For a good laugh check out the Best Director category. Yes, Jules Jordan is up there and feature guys like Brad Armstrong and Eli Cross were good last year. Rocco is always good and Seymore Butts is a fan favorite. But where the hell is Jonni Darrko? Where is Jim Powers? Where is Robby D? Justin Sterling, Paul Thomas AND Eon McKai? Safe to say that Vivid has the best PR machine going in this poll. I love the wild card category this year. Favorite all-time porn star. There are three guys, John Holmes, Ron Jeremy and Rocco thrown in with the women. I don’t know if that’s totally fair, but it’s interesting. The guys will have to take down industry mega-legends like Ginger Lynn, Marilyn Chambers, Jenna Jameson, Christy Canyon and Vanessa Del Rio to claim the title. It seems that Skeeter Kerkove’s legal troubles are behind him enough for him to go back on the warpath. The nomadic and volatile director has most recently been shooting stuff for Robert Hill Releasing and some of his titles still pop up from Fusxion so he may still have something there. At any rate, he’s gone back on the attack with internet rants that target virtually everyone in the business not named Pat Myne, Jim Powers or Max Hardcore. As usual, his prime target is Jules Jordan. God only knows why Skeeter hates Jules so much, but he has once again managed to link my name to Jules’ and pretty much mangle my words so badly that I wouldn’t know where to start a rebuttal. Since Skeeter likes to point out that Jim Powers is a genius and that many porn directors owe him more than a small nod of gratitude, I’ll just say that I have been watching, buying and loving Jim’s movies for longer than Skeeter has been in the business. No one has to sell me on the brilliance or importance of Jim Powers as a force in porn. I’m already on that bandwagon my friend. I have nothing against Skeeter and can’t figure out exactly why he has such a bone to pick with me. If it’s because I actually like Jules Jordan’s work, then I can’t help that. I think that the numbers speak for themselves. Jules makes great porn and if liking great makes me wrong, then I don’t want to be right. In addition to Jules and myself, Skeeter is going after someone he once called the “King of Porn” John Stagliano. Again, I don’t know the story behind this feud, but I do know that John seems to be on the Kerkove shitlist along with his wife Tricia Devereaux and contract director Belladonna. I guess if you’re going to attack people in the business, you might as well attack the big boys. Whatever is going on with Skeeter I hope that he calms down a little, stops calling people schoolyard names and picks up the phone. You have the number and I would be more than happy to talk to you about your thoughts on the history or porn, your issues with certain people and anything else on that deviant mind of yours.
Speaking of deviant minds, the XRCO Awards took place last month. The new venue for the awards show wasn’t too bad though the crowd far exceeded the main hall. Tera Patrick and Evan Seinfeld did a nice job as co-hosts, keeping the show moving along and holding their composure well after a pre-show run in with Lucy Lee. Drink were thrown, nasty words were exchanged, but in the end it was a pretty mild fight. No big shocks during the awards ceremony. Hillary Scott won…well she won everything. The blonde bombshell took home five Hart-On awards which is, we believe a record. Hillary was named Best Female Performer, Orgasmic Oralist, Orgasmic Analist, Best Actress and Super Slut of the Year. We always talk about records that will not be broken. These five titles at XRCO? We may never see that again. Overall it was a nice night with some of porn’s best and brightest being recognized by the men and women who spend all year reviewing their stuff.
Two women who apparently won’t be around to try for the Hillary Scott sweep are Tiffany Taylor and Lacie Heart. About a year ago, Tiffany was involved in a serious car accident. Though she has recovered from her injuries, she has not returned to the world of porn. Rumors that she had quit altogether had been circulating for month, but Tiffany waited until last month to make the ‘official’ announcement. In an email to Luke Ford, Tiffany informed the porn world that she ha moved back to Florida, enrolled in classes at the University of Florida and is apparently done with porn forever. This loss for Vivid, on top of already losing Lacie Heart to Digital Playground at the end of last year, puts them two hot babes down. If the rumors are true, Lacie’s stay at the DP didn’t last long though. Rumors are currently circulating that she too has left the business after getting married and that the blonde ex-porn babe is now carrying a child. If this keeps up then Vivid might want to install LoJac in all of their contract girls.
That’s all the news that’s fit to print as well as some of the gossip that isn’t. By the time the next column rolls around 2007 will already be half over. I wonder if it’s too early to reserve my rooms for Vegas in 2008.
