The Pipeline: April 2006

It’s already April and I have to say once again that I have stopped doing April Fool’s Day columns. I still get emails about the “Traci Lords to do Seymore Butts movie” column and let’s not even talk about the “Rog to marry Aurora Snow” column. I had a lot of fun with those columns, but it just takes up too much time answering all of the questions from people who don’t read the “April Fool’s” notes at the bottom. So everything you see in this April is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Except of course for my baseball predictions which are pure fantasy. Any truth in them is purely coincidental.

It is very early in the year and I’ve already seen some backlash for proclaiming that Jules Jordan’s “Jenna Haze Darkside” is the early favorite for movie of the year. The first title released by Jules Jordan Video is an eight-scene, four-hour romp that features Jenna doing things we haven’t seen her do in years (Sex with guys) and a few things we have never seen her do. (Blow bang, Interracial Sex). Jenna looks great and has outstanding energy in every scene. I know that it’s only spring, but any movie that is going to top this effort is going to have to be really good. Damn the backlash and to hell with the haters, I’m on the bandwagon.

Metro expanded its library considerably last month when it purchased Video Team. They get the entire catalog as well as distribution of all future VT projects. The move consolidated the two companies under one roof. Christian Mann of Video Team will take over as Executive Vice President of Metro, and “shall be in charge of Sales, Marketing and Creative Direction for both entities.” The addition of the Video Team catalog will expand Metro’s reach, particularly into the ethnic market where the Afro-Centric and Ethnicity Films lines have long been a force. Though no official word was released about the contract status of the Video Team girls, a general announcement that “all Video Team contracts and deals are still in effect” should cover that. Perhaps that will mean some more ethnic flavor in some of Metro’s big feature releases.

Last year we watched little Britney Rears take the porn world by storm with her Wild Backstage Sex Party. Now Brit is back with a power-packed sequel to her debut flick. Borrowing its name from a memorable line in her theme song “Britney Rears: I Wanna Get Laid” marks the return of the bubbly blonde to the blue screen. Joining Britney and her perfectly proportioned natural fun bags are such smut hotties as Hillary Scott, Eva Angelina, Jenaveve Jolie, Shy Love, Sunny Lane, Nadia Styles, Nyomi Marcela, Nikki Hilton and Kapri Styles. Hustler will release the movie on April 11, but fans can get a peek at the movie on www.britneyrears.com As before, the site features a trailer for the movie as well as new photos, updates and a brand new theme song that is guaranteed to stick in your brain for at least a week.

A former Vivid Girl turned Jill Kelly Girl turned Digital Playground Girl turned free agent has inked a new deal. Devon has signed a deal with Black Kat Productions. The exclusive deal will have the busty blonde as the featured star in a new line of videos to be released later this year. The first title “Devon Unleashed” is due out this summer. In the meantime, Devon will be working on a feature dance tour that will help promote the launch of her new web site, www.devonxxx.com Though it is her fourth stop in eight years; Devon seems to believe she has found a home this time around.

For years, the AVN Awards in January have been the industry’s big event. The star power and prestige are unquestioned, but there is an effort to branch out a little. The XRCO Awards have been around for years and have become more high-profile of late. Now we have a new contender looking to be the big mid-year award show. The FAME Awards are an internet-based contest with fans casting their votes. After an opening round, six finalists in each category will compete for top honors. Though fan-based voting has existed for years on www.cavr.com and www.rogreviews.com this one has the support of AVN so it will be very high profile event. Hmmm, maybe a big awards show and banquet would make the Rog Awards more respectable.

Wicked reversed their recent trend of losing contract stars by locking up two of their big names to one-year extensions. Both Julia Ann and Stormy Daniels will be back with Wicked for the upcoming year. Stormy has made quite a splash both in front of and behind the camera and will continue to wear multiple hats for Wicked. Since both Stormy and Julia Ann can handle dialog, these were key signings for Wicked. There are a few dozen new cuties in porn at any given time, but few women have the acting chops, fan base and sex appeal that these two have.

Vivid also fortified their list of contract stars by resigning one and bringing another out of retirement. Steffani Morgan has been one of Vivid’s unheralded stars for a year and they got her name on an extension that will keep her around for a while. She is a very cute girl with a lot of energy. Hopefully Vivid will realize what a huge asset they have and promote her a little better this year. Stef is a girl who should not go un-noticed. Dipping into the well a bit, they also talked Cassidey back into the business. Terms of the new contract were not available at press time, but figure on something like a one-year deal for at least six movies. If history is any indication, that should keep Vivid busy with Cassidey movies for the next three to five years. There is no word yet on whether or not she’ll be doing boys this time around, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

OK time for some baseball picks. I haven’t been too good at this, but let’s go on record with the following.

AL: Yankees, White Sox, A’s with the Angels as the Wild Card NL: Braves, Cardinals, Giants with the Mets as the Wild Card

Cardinals over the White Sox in six games for the title. There you go, on record. Laugh it up.

That’s about all the news that fit to print my friends. Back to shuffling tax papers I go. Keep your eye out for next month’s column where we can break down the winners from both XRCO and FAME to see how close the fans and critics are when it comes to picking winners. I know I suck at predictions, but I would be shocked if Pirates doesn’t clean up in both.
