Girlfriends Films Donates $1000 to the Guttmacher Institute on Behalf of AVN Editor Mark Kernes

April’s Charity Donation Helps Ensure Higher Standards of Sexual & Reproductive Health for All!

April 2, 2012 — CHATSWORTH, Calif. — The Guttmacher Institute was selected to receive a gift of $1000 from Girlfriends Films, on behalf of AVN Media Senior Editor and Chief Legal Analyst Mark Kernes. The donation to the Guttmacher Institute is the April selection for Girlfriends Films’ monthly charity program. Past charities include Lambda Legal, Muscular Dystrophy Association, NPR, Cancer Research Institute, the American Red Cross, and more. The April donation choice by Kernes goes towards ensuring higher standards of sexual and reproductive health for all.

Girlfriends Films calls on its strong community of fans and followers to join Mark Kernes in helping those in need. Donations of all sizes may be made directly to the Guttmacher Institute at https://npo.networkforgood.org/Donate/Donate.aspx?npoSubscriptionId=5116&code=homepage.

Kernes explains his selection of the Guttmacher Institute. He says, “In a world where the mass media go out of their way to spread misinformation about sexuality—particularly women’s sexuality—there is one shining light consistently presenting the facts and statistics needed to counter the religio-conservatives: The Guttmacher Institute. As a journalist, I can’t say how many times I’ve been confronted with some right-wing politician or preacher spouting suspicious factoids about anything having to do with sex, where I’ve logged onto the Guttmacher website and found scientific data to debunk whatever myth they’re trying to create or spread this week.”

Kernes continues, “Girlfriends Films is to be congratulated for being willing to ‘step up to the plate’ and encourage and help other members of the adult community make this country a better place to live in with its charitable donations. Bravo!”

“The first couple days of each month is my favorite time,” states Girlfriends Films Vice President Moose. “It is then we find out what charity was picked to receive a donation from our charity program. The choice says a lot about the person who selected it, and we are always happy to give performers and leaders in this industry a chance to promote their favorite charity and give back to the community.”

Girlfriends Films has a long history of charitable contributions, having donated over $20,000 in 2011. Last year the company recently restructured its charity program from an annual end-of-year donation to an ongoing, monthly program. 2011 donations included Melissa Monet’s choice of Planned Parenthood, Lily Cade’s selection of Lambda Legal, Ryan Keely’s pick of NPR, Trinity St. Clair’s selection of Life 4 Paws, Jiz Lee’s donation to a California girls organization, Dyanna Lauren’s donation to Child Find of America, Cindy’s selection of Cancer Research Institute, Jelena Jensen’s selection of Best Friends Animal Society, and Samantha Ryan’s choice of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. AVN Media founder Paul Fishbein kicked off the 2012 giving with a donation to Best Friend Animal Society, followed by Tanya Tate’s gift to the National Breast Cancer Coalition and XBIZ Managing Editor Dan Miller’s donation to the American Red Cross.

Any Girlfriends Films performers interested in participating may apply by emailing the following information to PR@GirlfriendsFilms.com: name, AIP charity of choice, reason(s) for selecting the charity. Chosen performers will be asked to submit a personal photo depicting the performer engaged with the charity, the charity’s mission, or a similar charitable act. The photo will be used for promotional purposes.
