“Most Honored Foot Fetish Line of All Time” Turns 40
Los Angeles, CA ” Barefoot Confidential 40 hits the streets today. The AVN Guide to the 500 Greatest Adult Films of All Time calls the series: “The most honored foot fetish line of all time.” And indeed it is, no matter what gauge you use. The series has won six back-to-back AVN Awards, including 1999’s “Best Screenplay” (an honor usually bestowed on high-budget features). And it transformed a previously neglected genre of adult video into the popular category it is today.
Before the first Barefoot Confidential came out in 1998, the only foot fetish movies on the market were softcore. “Working at AVN, I discovered something after I’d reviewed a number of these movies,” Kick Ass Pictures’ president Kulkis recalls. “Women’s feet are very sexy! I had never really thought about it before then. But the movies I was watching were pretty lame. I thought I could do better. Better scenarios, better foot close-ups, and add some actual sex! I assumed there must be other perverts out there who thought the same way. Foot fetish is proven to be the most common and popular fetish throughout the world.”
Barefoot Confidential was the line that launched Kick Ass Pictures. Kulkis shot the first volume on a shoestring budget with himself as director, videographer, photographer and one-man crew. It was an immediate success. The formula of quality foot fetish and hardcore sex struck a chord with legions of foot fans. Kulkis helmed the first 10 volumes of Barefoot Confidential himself (under the name Mark Archer), then turned it over to Andre Madness and occasional guest directors. Responding to viewer demand, Kulkis resumed directing the line again with Volume 33.
Barefoot Confidential was a groundbreaker, and its success was hard for competitors to ignore. Today, eight years later, there are literally dozens of hardcore foot fetish lines on the market.
