This weekend I reviewed Asian Fever: Sex Objects. It’s a pretty good movie, but it kind if fits in with the Zupko story from yesterday. For a while Hustler had David Aaron Clark shooting their Asian stuff. It was a good move for them, but a tough one for Clark. Like Zupko, DAC probably found out that the Hustler higher-ups are always busy watching out for the bottom line. Their stuff is rather restricted and the new Asian Fever is definitely a different sort of project than we saw from Clark.
You all know how much I just ‘love’ alt-porn and thankfully many of you share my feelings about this lamer-than-the-Macarena fad. Apparently industry insiders also find it rather amusing. I got a call from a certain gonzo/feature director the other day and as we were talking he mentioned a little alt-porn skit he threw into one of his shoots. Apparently the male talent involved, a well-known alt-porn boy had a great sense of humor about the whole thing. I may be reaching a bit here, but way back in one of my film classes we were taught that once something reached parody stage, it was pretty much a dead genre. Let’s hope that the adage holds true in this case.
Did anyone happen to see the home run Bonds his tonight? Damn! I know that this might be news to some people, but that guy is pretty fucking good. Though I will always despise Barry Bonds, watching him hit monster home runs in the 2002 World Series was an incredible pleasure.
And speaking of incredible pleasures…was that Kobe Bryant sitting on the bench in the final moments of game seven on Saturday? It was pretty sweet watching him sit there with that stupid look on his face while the Suns blew him out. It was fantastic to hear over and over that it was Kobe’s first time losing in the first round of the playoffs. Hello. It’s his first trip to the playoffs without Shaq covering his back. I would imagine Laker Nation is pretty upset with the Little Princess for tearing down their dynasty. Now that the purple and yellow are done, LA can get behind the best team in town.
When I wasn’t watching sports or porn this weekend I snuck in some DVD box set viewing. I made it through two short-lived TV shows in two days. Both of them are worth mentioning. First I watched Seasons 1 & 2 of “Titus” (If I did this right, there should be a graphic for it here in this blog somewhere.) I watched the show when it was on and it was a shame that it went away so quickly. Very funny show that takes severe turns into some rather serious issues. The second box set was the first and only season of Playmakers. ESPN chose the NFL over the show when they cancelled it, but as single-season shows go, this is one of the best in years. I recommend it quite highly, especially if you have the time to buy/rent the whole set and watch all 11 episodes over a weekend. Great TV is rare and both of these sets will keep you entertained.
That’s about it for right now. Have a good week everyone.
