Greetings: On a roll, on a roll. Always something to write about, yeah? It looks like we came up short on the laptop for Savanna. Thanks to everyone who clicked on the links and considered the sites. Thanks also to the couple of you who signed up. I was all set to be number ten if we got close. Maybe someone out there has a line on a basic laptop, even a slightly used one, that they would be willing to swap for a boatload of porn to get our rising star up and running.

Sting, Stung: When I was watching Studio 60 the other night I was struck by how sad it is to see Sting these days. Yes, he’s still a brilliant musician and quite an artist. On the other hand, he was an icon of my young, long before anyone else knew of him. It’s just a sad sign that we’re all aging because the rebel rocker of my youth is now guest starring as himself on a Sorkin show playing the lute. To make matters worse, I flipped by VH1 and caught BBC Crown Jewels. They happened to be playing a really old Police live show and that just made me even sadder. Is it really possible that the guy belting out “Landlord” and “Truth Hits Everybody” is a lute playing classical artist starring in prime time? Oh time is cruel.

More AVN Nomination Suggestions: How about the guys? Will this be the year that Erik Everhard finally wins one? Will it be Manuel? How about Lex again? Does anyone really care which guy wins? I wouldn’t be shocked to see Scott Nails get some love this year. He’s done some pretty good work and probably deserves a shot.

Hate-Lines As News: OK so I need to clear up what I said the other day. Tod says he doesn’t use the RSS feed offered by the hate sites he promotes. That would make the hate-lines something other than “auto-generated.” He goes out and finds the hate-lines on the well-oiled hate sites and presents them. Fair enough. I’d rather talk about the issues and am not quite so tied to a single-party “hooray for our side” feel. That’s probably why the pleated skirt and pom-poms have never felt right. Poli-cheering ain’t for me y’all.

Random Political Notes: I have already said many times in this blog that the Republicans aren’t giving us any reason to keep them in power. They are spending like mad, looking to grant amnesty to illegals without doing anything at all to actually protect the border and of course aren’t doing a damn thing to lay off of porn to focus on more important things. That said, what are the Democrats offering us? On those key issues listed above they are proposing MORE spending in the face of mounting deficits, an immigration policy that does LESS than what the Bush people want and the exact same voting pattern on 2257 regs. On top of that they are promising to take away most or all (depending on who you listen to on that side.) of the tax cuts that have led us into an economy that is booming. I just don’t get it.
A cut and run policy (for lack of a better term) is Iraq seems to be all that they are offering. I’m not sure what that really does for us in the long run. No one would disagree that a pull out would lead to disaster in Iraq and yet that is what they keep telling us we should do. What good does creating a bigger mess do? It allows them to point fingers at someone else and say “see, bad idea” but it is also a self-fulfilling prophecy, That’s another topic for another time.
The point is this. The Democrats SHOULD take back both houses of Congress. They have history on their side. (6th year elections always give huge gains to the opposition party). They are running against a President with extremely low approval numbers and who they have spent tens of millions of dollars bashing. The fact that there is any question tells us that there is a serious problem here. Where is the Democratic version of a Contract With America? Can’t they find ten issues that Americans favor and make a simple promise? Certainly they can give us 10 reasons to vote FOR them. So far their strategy seems ass-backwards. “Bush isn’t doing enough to protect the borders. Vote for us, we’ll do less.” That makes no fucking sense. “Budget deficits and spending is out of control. Put us back in power so we can increase spending.” It’s nuts. Relax, I know that issues are more complex than this, but what is the message?
Even the hate sites are having trouble these days. The economic news just keeps getting better so Sorros and his merry band of hypocrites have turned to running hit pieces on “stem cell research.” That’s the same kind of silly crap they complain about when Republicans start dragging out the “dead baby” arguments. With one hand complain about spending and with the other attack people who voted against spending on stem cell research. Nutty.
How about this Dems. Go with your strengths on actual issues. Since you’re dead on in saying that the deficit is scary and the borders are unsafe, why not take the RIGHT position on these issues. Come forward with a solid package of spending cuts and a plan to make it tougher for anyone to walk across the border. These are simple issues to commit to and people will respect that. Come forward with a plan to divert Federal anti-porn efforts into things like protecting the ports. Which is more dangerous to America? Extreme Associates selling adult products to adults or someone blowing up a dirty bomb at the Port of Los Angeles? Introduce a plan to actually collect outstanding student loans in order to provide more of these same loans to students in the future. That way we increase the money available for students without having to increase spending on it. All you have to do is make people pay back the money they already owe the program. Is that really too much to ask? Short of that, can they at least tell me what they plan to DO with the 3K plus they plan to take out of family’s bank account and why I should sign onto a plan that hurts me, my children, the people who use this site and risks fucking up an economy that is rolling? Anyone? Now THAT is too much to ask. Feel free to comment or criticize.
